The Pure Basic Non-Toxic Mattress is our simplest, most traditional non-toxic mattress. It’s carefully crafted from just a few, incredibly pure & comfortable materials. And it comes at a price that won’t break the bank. Because we believe that everyone should be able to buy a mattress that wasn’t soaked in toxic flame-retardants or built using materials that emit harmful VOCs.
And this mattress is more than just pure. It’s made on every level to give you a more restful night’s sleep.
The Right Firmness for YOU
How? For starters, we offer three firmness levels of our tempered steel, Bonnell innersprings, so you can pick the firmness that’s just right for you.
Naturally Breathable
Also, this mattress is built in a way that allows it to naturally “breathe.” That, combined with the natural materials we use, helps control humidity levels next to the skin, providing an even, optimal sleeping temperature.
What’s Inside our Pure Basic Non-Toxic Mattress
This non-toxic mattress is lovingly handmade in California, using only three natural ingredients: Organic Cotton, PureGrow Wool & Tempered Steel Innersprings.

1. Tempered Steel Innerspring
To start with, we use Bonnell innersprings with tempered steel for longevity. You can pick your own firmness level to be sure to get just the right support for you.
2. Tufted Organic Cotton
The innersprings are covered with layers of tufted organic cotton pads. Not only is the cotton grown organically, it is also processed naturally. So there are no pesticides, no defoliants, no mineral oils & no fire-retardants.
3. PureGrow Wool
Then we add a layer of PureGrow Wool – which was sheared from live, healthy sheep and gently processed without chemicals. Why do we use wool here? Well, wool is the perfect bedding material for its ability to wick off moisture, regulate temperature, and reduce mildew. It’s also naturally flame resistant. That means this mattress naturally meets the fire safety standards we’re required to have by law without any harmful flame retardant chemicals.
These generous layers of Organic Cotton & PureGrow Wool make this bed exceptionally comfortable and breathable.
At the end, the entire mattress is covered with our Organic Cotton Ticking. We make this cotton extraordinary soft & breathable by twice-washing it in gentle, non-toxic soap to remove any starch. And no bleaching or chemical treatment is ever used in this process.
And that’s it. Just steel innersprings, organic cotton, and PureGrow wool.
What makes the Pure Basic Mattress “Non Toxic”
Like all of our mattresses, the Pure Basic Mattress is made from start to finish to be a truly non-toxic mattress. While we could call this an “organic mattress” or “natural mattress”, we think “non-toxic mattress” is the best description because of the special care we put into keeping harmful chemicals out of the mattress – something that many so-called “organic mattresses” do not do.
So here’s our promise: At SleepLily, you will never find any of the following chemicals in our mattresses.

- No Antimony
- No Halogenated Flame Retardants (HFRs)
- No Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs)

Whether you buy from us or another company, we implore you to make sure that the mattress you buy does not have any of these materials. Companies aren’t obligated to tell you what is on the mattress. So if the company does not specifically make a pledge like ours, there is a very good chance that they have one or more of these harmful chemicals.

Every SleepLily mattress is made fresh to order, by hand, in California.
This means you don’t have to worry about getting a mattress that’s been sitting in a warehouse for months on end, like you do with some of the other mattresses. You’ll be getting a top-quality mattress that is perfectly pure and untainted.
Because we make each mattress to order, please allow 1-3 weeks for the production of your mattress, plus 5-10 days for shipping from California.
